Who is family Class Relatives?

A family class relative is

            Your spouse to whom you are legally married, common law partner or conjugal partner.
            Your dependent child, including a child adopted before the age of 18 or unmarried
            Your mother / father
            Your Grand parents
            Your dependent real brother / sister below the age of 22 having continuous study.

What does it mean by sponsor?

A sponsor is a person who is landed immigrant or Canadian citizen and makes an application for a permanent resident visa for his /her family class relatives as mentioned above fulfilling the various provisions mentioned for the purpose under the IRPA act

What are the requirements you must meet as a sponsor ?

           A Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
           Physically residing in Canada.
           At-least 18 years of Age.
           Your relative is a family class member as mentioned above

What is Sponsorship undertaking?

When you sponsor a member of family class, you are required to sign a prescribed contract called “undertaking” with the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, promising to provide financial support for all the essential needs of the relative after arriving in Canada.

Low Income Cut-Off Table (LICOT)

As indicated above, sponsor needs to sign sponsorship undertaking to show the financial support to his /her relatives after arriving in Canada for which you need to have minimum yearly income depending upon the number of relatives to be sponsored. Income criteria is decided by the provincial authority separately for their respective province. Income criteria is published under the title Law Income Cut-off Table.
