Q.2 How do I know if I should apply for the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program?

A. Manitoba has a set of criteria for Provincial Nominees, each of which is awarded a certain number of points. The criteria include age, education, intended occupation in Manitoba (see "Important Terms"), guaranteed employment in Manitoba, work experience, language and adaptability. You should complete the Self-Assessment Guide in this package to see if you have enough points to be considered for the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program. If your self-assessment shows that you have enough points, and you want to settle and work in Manitoba, you should submit your application to be assessed by a Program Officer.

Q.1 What is the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program?

A. The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program was created through an agreement between the government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba. It allows Manitoba to recruit immigrants in order to meet its labour market needs. A person who is nominated by Manitoba can then apply for a permanent resident visa through Citizenship and Immigration Canada under the immigration category of Provincial Nominee.

Q.3 Does it help if I have relatives in Manitoba?

A. Yes. If you or your spouse have a brother, sister, parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, niece or nephew in Manitoba, you will have a better chance of qualifying for the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program. Your relative in Manitoba must be a permanent resident or Canadian citizen who is 19 years of age or older. Proof of that relationship will be required.

Q.4 Who do I include in my application?

A. Your spouse and all your dependent children must be included in your application. (See "Important Terms" for a definition of dependent children.") If you are married, either you or your spouse may apply as the principal applicant, depending on who gets a higher score on the Self-Assessment. The other spouse will apply as a dependent. All dependent family members 18 years of age or over must complete their own application forms.

Q. 5 What about my dependents who are not accompanying me to Canada?

A. All your dependents, whether they accompany you to Canada or not, must be included in Part A of your IMM 0008 application form. If they are 18 years of age or over, they must complete their own IMM 0008 application form.

Q.6 What fees will I have to pay?

A.
If you are approved as a Provincial Nominee you will have to pay all federal processing fees and Right of Landing Fees which apply to each member of your family. Do NOT include money with your Provincial Nominee application. The federal fees, which are paid to the Canada Immigration Processing Centre, should ONLY be paid when you are instructed to do so.

Q. 7 Is there a deadline for applying to the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program?

A. No. However, criteria may change at any time without notice. The occupations that are in demand in the Province of Manitoba may also change. You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible if you think that you qualify under the current criteria. Your application will be assessed according to the criteria in place at the time we receive your application.

Q.8 Who assesses the applications for the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program?

A. Staff at Manitoba's Immigration Promotion and Recruitment Branch assess all applications.

NOTE: The first step in the two-step application process is to submit your Manitoba Provincial Nominee application. Those accepted for the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program must apply for their permanent resident visa through Citizenship and Immigration Canada, who has the final authority for screening candidates and issuing immigration visa(s).

A. The Government of Canada recommends that you have at least $10,000 (Canadian) plus $2,000 (Canadian) per dependent.
