Program Description

This program focuses on developing the advanced concepts, knowledge and skills required for work in the networking/telecommunications/wireless field as a communications technology specialist. Building on a solid foundation of basic electronics, content will include communications hardware, the latest cellular technology, wireless repair and base station maintenance. Students will gain skills and knowledge in communications networking software and hardware installation, electronic messaging, electronic conferencing and workgroup management. The program explores features that affect security and provides practical skills for designing and implementing appropriate security control measures. Students will be prepared to analyze, plan, design, implement, enhance, maintain and audit security. And will gain programming skills in object-oriented techniques using C and JAVA. This program also prepares students to diagnose and resolve hardware and software conflicts with appropriate tools. Students will further develop interpersonal communications, teamwork and project management skills and are also required to acquire new knowledge and skills on a continuous basis to keep pace with the fast-changing nature of telecommunications practices and technologies.

Admission Requirements

- Ontario Secondary School Diploma at or above the general level, or equivalent
- Grade 12 English (general level or above)
- Grade 12 general level Mathematics
- A biography outlining hobbies, experience, an understanding of the program and the reason for wishing to enter the program, will be completed at the assessment session
- Functional knowledge/skill in word processing/keyboarding is highly recommended
