Program Description

This program parallels Hotel and Resort Operation for the first two years of study: front-line service is highlighted in the first year, supervisory and operational skills in the second. Students are allowed the same range of options and are encouraged to pursue their career interests in a particular sector of the Hospitality industry. The fifth and sixth semesters of the Administration program focus on helping students develop to a high degree the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for effective management in the Hospitality industry. Students learn the importance of goal setting and planning, time management, team work and communication for those seeking careers as managers in any sector of the industry.

Career Opportunities

The majority of graduates from these programs find positions in the following fields: hotels, resorts and restaurant operations, attractions, theme parks, airline food services, industrial sales to hospitality institutions, recreation or sports shops or clubs. Other related types of work include such positions as program directors in hotels, resorts, cruise ships, banquet and catering management, supervisory positions at golf clubs, yacht clubs, and elder care institutions.

Employment for this occupation is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2005. Hotel Industry is a fast growing field that offers many excellent career opportunities. As we move into the next millennium, employment opportunities will become much more integrated, requiring a new set of skills possessed by graduates entering the work force. Expanding foreign and domestic business travel and tourism will create a demand for more hotels, motels, and eating and drinking establishments.
