Program Description
|
This program teaches the digital
and traditional photographic technology required for entry-level
access to the professional photographic field. Emphasis is placed
on digital imaging and digital capture techniques, creative and
conceptual proficiency, practical skills and real-life application
of photographic theory. Students will study digital manipulation,
lighting, traditional and digital studio techniques, traditional
black and white and colour darkroom procedures, and colour and
black and white digital output methodology. |

of the photographic industry. Graduates students set up their
own freelance businesses/studios. |

Employment for this occupation
is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations
through the year 2005. Photography has mostly been considered
a hobby, and at best, a part-time, extra pocket-money earning
activity. But today, photographers are so much in the news, in
demand and respected financially, that those who have the talent
and interest in photography can now seriously consider this a
viable career option. |

Admission Requirements
|
- Ontario Secondary
School Diploma at or above the general level, or equivalent
- Grade 12 English
- Portfolio which should include
a minimum of 10 B&W or colour prints, digital outputs, or
35mm slides
- Some basic
darkroom experience, B&W film processing and printing experience
is recommended
- Recommended courses: computer
skills (particularly digital imaging), English, art, photography
and business, all at the general level or higher
