Program Description

This program has been designed to prepare students for careers as Estheticians, able to provide the entire range of professional services offered in modern esthetics salons and spas. Students will also be trained in the psychology of selling, and the practicalities of sales within the salon environment. This program provides future skin care specialists with the practical skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in this multimillion dollar industry. Students will learn how to perform popular esthetic services such as facials, waxing, body treatments, manicures and pedicures.

Career Opportunities

A broad range of career opportunities exist for the professional esthetician, from employment in spas, salons and health centres, to product representatives or skin consultants working in conjunction with dermatologists. The entrepreneurial esthetician is often self-employed or employed on a consultant basis. Some work as product trainers or sales representatives for distributors of esthetic products. Many graduates are self-employed. There are also new opportunities for estheticians working with plastic surgeons and dermatologists.

Employment for this occupation is expected to grow more rapidly than the average for all occupations through the year 2005. Esthetic is one of the fastest growing professions today. The esthetic profession is multi-faceted and involves helping others to look and feel good about themselves, thus increasing their self-esteem and self-confidence. It is a very rewarding career, the work being exciting, fulfilling, and often demanding because of the diverse number of services that may be carried out throughout the day. Females and males of all ages are seeking professional treatments for their skin and body, particularly the growing number of ageing baby boomers who are looking for services to look and feel good for as long as possible.
