Program Description

This post graduate diploma
program includes two academic semesters and one sixteen-week co-op
placement, preparing students for employment in the New Media
field, concentrating on design and development for the dynamic
elements of the World Wide Web. A strong focus will be placed
on the client(s) needs assessment, planning and costing of project
development. Students work as members of project teams, sharing
a rotating slate of responsibilities while developing critically
important skills as part of this project-based learning process.
This process provides a practical, hands-on approach to designing
interactive and media rich Web sites which may incorporate streaming
media, database driven Web sites, HTML, JavaScript, DHTML, visual
design for the Web, Web-based communications, research and writing
for the Web, and other interactive programming. |

Career Opportunities
|
Graduates will find employment
opportunities as designers and/or producers for the World Wide
Web. Graduates may choose to become specialists within an organization,
or as independent designer/consultants. Industry Canada has indicated
that the Information Technology industry in general is experiencing
critical shortages of skilled information technology professionals.
Web development skills are required by industries such as media
production houses, companies conducting e-commerce, information
agencies, entertainment and training. |
